Man Flu

Standard

Luckily it appears (so far!) that is not in this household. But, a friend sent this link through – and it’s just way too funny not to share!! It really is worth clicking and giggling for the next 2 or 3 minutes :)

In other news, I discovered that I know “Tuesday” in Maori as Turei…. yet schools are taught different versions – Tuesday = Ratu. So when I heard Mr 7 telling hubby about something to do with Maori Language Week and thought I could cleverly add my impressive knowledge, Mr 7 was very quick to play the corrective teacher. I was very confused! Turns out, that what I learnt in younger days is a transliteration – a form that is close to English. And the new form that is being taught a more “traditional” form that has been officially recognised by the Maori Language Commission since 1990. So there you go – both Mum and son are correct. And I promise it wasn’t a slightly competitve streak in me showing through as to who might have been correct ;) Truly.

And is it just me, or are there things that we would have learnt at school that have changed – and now there are new versions of the “truth”?? Things like Pteradactyls are no longer dinosaurs,  the Great Wall of China is NOT visible from space,  Pluto is not a planet (I knew this one, as I heard it announced on the radio the day it was “decided”).  Are there things out there that you knew as a kid, but are now taught differently?

It was quite pleasant here weather wise today – I should have hung my washing out to dry afterall. I was expecting more of the rain. Because, you know, I just haven’t had enough of the driving, wet, cold, muddy, sodden weather.

OK – you know I’m fibbing….. Roll on Spring and Summer already!!

Evidence of birthday fun….

Standard

While waiting for Hubby to come home with the chosen birthday tea, Mr 7 finished off his latest CJ round. It’s a bit late (again! – sorry Beverley :oops: ) but I think he did a great job, n’est pas? {Oh, and the “Friends” was spelt correctly…. we just had a wee placement issue with the stamps…}

I had some help in the kitchen from Mr 4 with the cream…..

The Orange cake…. Mr 7′s favourite colour is orange so I went out to the cake decorating place (I know where it is now…yay!) and got some quality gel food colouring. Can I say, bright orange? Yep, ’twas great!

Mr 7 thought it was great – and he loved the rugby guy on it that I found. Apparently this is his “best ever” birthday cake. For Real. Gotta love the enthusiasm :)

Wooo Hoooo Wednesday

Standard

woohooo

WoooHoooot Wednesday is Janine’s brainchild… celebrate the good things in your week and make sure to let Janine know so we can all come take a look.

My WoooHooo things are small things in an ongoing list of Big Picture things. And for all you scrapbookers out there, no, I’m not referring to anything to do with Stacy Julian.

  • I had my last session with my counsellor / therapist last week. With the follow up with my GP this week. One of the things that I wanted to do after my mini-break down earlier in the year was to try and identify why I had started going down that path. How did I end up where I did. I’ve never seen a therapist before and was a little nervous. In reality, it was not a big deal at all. And I learned a lot of things about myself. Things I actually already knew, but needed to have them pointed out, or reflected back at me. It’s helped put me back on the path of being me again. I’m feeling really good about things for the moment. And that just has to be a Wooo Hooo, right??! :D
  • I haven’t been creating very much in terms of cards and scrapping right now. Mainly because I have been trying to catch up on the study. Discipline, see? I have however been knitting a bit. Still creative… just a whole lot slower! There have been 3 babies born and so I have tried making some booties. Never have been a good bootie-knitter. But I persevered and after trying a pattern that looked like it should turn out great – and have it really look like a complete mess, I went and got some advice. Show me some modern, kinda lacey but really easy booties, said I. And the assistant pointed out the exact pattern book for me. And I knitted 2 pairs already. And they were good booties. And I gave them to the new mummies. And they adored them. But I forgot to take pictures before handing them over. Doh!!! But I will show you the jacket I am making for another good friend. Watch out for that.
  • I finally finished the latchhook rug that I had been making for Mr 4. I bought two; one each for the Mr’s. They were started and were meant to be completed in time for Christmas 06.

It never happened. Mr 6 got his somewhere in and around… probably after… his birthday last year. Mr 4 got his on Monday this week. Mr 4 is thrilled with his one, which is a bear lying on a golden moon. I now only have eleventy billion and three unfinished pre-scrapbooking projects to complete.

WoooHoooot # 2

Standard

Yep, really! I wasn’t expecting to be back here so soon but there you go! But seeing Wooo Hooo Wednesday is something Janine started and this next one is also because Janine started something, I thought it was only fair to declare on line and in public that Janine is an Enabler”.

You guys clear about this? It is Janine’s fault!!!

Just kidding. Actually, no I’m not. See at the crop the other weekend, Janine brought along not one, but two really cool books. Really cool. Even my buddy Donna who is really really good at being that voice in the bottom of my wallet said – and I quote: “You should get that”. Meaning it was really good and I should get it so that she didn’t have to. Oh, she’s a clever girl that Donna! :P

So I went on Amazon and took a look. And guess what? They were discounted. Yep, I got the two plus postage for the same price roughly that I would have paid for ONE of the books had I known where to find them here. What on earth am I on about??

These puppies:

Plus they arrived just an hour ago – like 3 weeks before I was expecting them! So basically, it’s a big Wooooo Hooooooo in this house just now. Oh, and Mr 6 has already glanced through the kid’s one with me and has about half a dozen projects he’s wanting to do. So, success.

Thanks Janine – you enabler you!

WoooooooHoooooooo!!

Smiley Saturday time

Smiley Saturday is brought to you by Lightening Online and the letter C. For “Cool!”

That would be because there have been lots of cool things happening this week in this house.

  • Like Mr 3 jumping and splashing in the pool with his swim buddy, G, and giving me great big wet hugs and telling me “I love you, Mum” before jumping right back in. Who can resist a kid like that??
  • Like Mr 6 getting 100% in his spelling test again this week. And being really proud of it.
  • Like giving Widdleshamrock and friends something to smile about for a couple of hours (days?….weeks???) Who knew a bath could do that for you? ;)
  • Like seeing another small turning point in some of the hard stuff in life and knowing you are on the way back.
  • Like finding a cool wooden word to decorate. And I will share when it is done as requested :)
  • Like taking part in a Cyber Crop at Scrapbook Essentials – and managing to chat AND work on some projects! And being amazed at the girls that took part in the “Hour to make” challenge. Sheesh those girls are AMAZING!!
  • Like seeing love and support being shared among friends that need it.
  • And like getting ready for a 4 year old’s birthday party. Yes, Mr 3 will become Mr 4 tomorrow. And for the first time I’m doing a non-themed party. It’s all about the fun and the friends and the cake. Gotta have the cake!!

Well, that’s my smiley week. Now, gotta go and get some more of those party supplies.
