Idol sneak peek

Standard

Oh my goodness! It’s been a while since I last updated. And it’s not as if life has been so interesting …more like stressful and frustrating at times. But hasn’t the weather been great?! Ok – so it’s due to pack up for the rest of the week, but I have my fingers crossed that it’ll be back like this next week.

OK, so amongst the frustrations of a very long and tiring week last week, I had to get a circle journal out. It was meant to have been forwarded on the Monday, but I had made a request to get a photo of a particular person and held out to the last minute. I’m like that – I will hold out till the last second… it’s the procrastinator in me! Not particularly helpful around deadlines and other date driven activities – like…….. ohhhh, Christmas! Well, I got rescued by my lovely friend K who had just the right pic.

So for those of you not privy to my general conversations that probably sounded more than a little stalker-ish, my scrap idol was Cathy Zielske. Actually, truth is I have many: far too many to shake a handful of sticks at. But I picked CZ because … well, Because! I guess too in my mind I had the layout somehow looking CZ-ish and so it made sense. Others on my short list were Ali Edwards (the whole patterned paper thing and the embracing imperfection thing. I am imperfection after all!) plus Stacy Julian who I had the good fortune to enjoy a lecture from the previous weekend.

And I even included a couple of local gals ………. only two – because that was all the room I had left in the journalling block! There are many, many MANY more I could have included too.

Ok – so I need to get on with another couple of crafty deadline items. So, instead I’ll spend a couple of extra moments here with you guys instead. I’m telling ya – I am the Queen of Procrastination!

Hubby played with the brass band in the Santa parade. I hate (as in I will faint… not a good look!) being in a crowd of people on a hot, sunny day. So I get around this by taking the mr’s to the starting point. Normally we see the tail end of the parade leaving, hang around and play for a bit then watch as the whole parade comes back in.

This year my timing was a little off. That was possibly a good thing. The start was delayed for some reason so we got front row spots and saw the entire parade pass by. Hubby was on the back of a truck really close to the head of the parade so at the end we got to meet up quickly and get on out. After getting him to collect parade participant treats like fizzy drink and a hot dog! I noticed too that this year there were a few kids attached to the band members on the back of the truck with the band. Maybe next year the Mr’s can go on the back too - how cool would that be?!

After my assessment at the gym last month I was a little down that the results were not even slightly favourable. So I’ve been working hard on the “rubbish in” side of the equation and ensuring I’m going to the gym at least 3 times a week over the past month. I noticed the “diing” as I checked in today. Not quite ready to be re-assessed just yet so I put it off for another week or so. Then I’m hoping my good work will pay off and I’ll see some of those nasty numbers begin to go downwards. I’ll be happy with even a little bit.

At the last assessment, the instructor mentioned that I had started on my journey at the right time. With a few good changes in diet and the exercising I might reach my self-imposed target within 6-8 months. That doesn’t actually seem that long – if I put in the work now. Still, it would be nice to wake up tomorrow and discover that the excess has just disappeared!

Ok – so now I better go down and fold some washing. Yes – see I can do the domestic duties when I want to!

Gosh, did it seemed like I disappeared?? It has sure felt like it!

Reality and all those things that you just have to catch up on finally won out on the priority list and have meant my time on-line lately has been somewhat limited. It’s all good though as it means I’ve been busy studying, creating, and mending.

Mending me as my finger looks ok and I’m almost over a heavy cold that came my way last week. Still taking care of Mr 3′s snotty nose though. Parenthood is full of rewards…..

I’ve managed to create some layouts that I will share if I get the chance – a couple of them have been a long time coming so the fact I got to a crop a week or so ago means they finally got done. I was feeling pretty darn good with myself as I did a count of how many layouts I’ve managed to get done this year…. 46…. and then I read someone’s comment about how it doesn’t matter how many you do as long as you are happy. Hmmm…. I’m pretty darn happy with the fact I have actually gotten the ones I have done…. and therefore making a dent in the pile I have kinda planned. Oh well, it isn’t a race as I keep reminding Mr 6…. but I reckon I’m on track with one ill-defined goal of mine for the year. So, I am happy…..

I have one more CJ round to do until I get my Friendship book back. I’m really looking foward to it…. Getting to look through everyone’s work – but more importantly, their stories. Actually, I tell a lie…. I have TWO more to do…. I’m late with the one that is meant to go out today  (sorry Karen!!)
But the little ATCs above are going out on time. I struggled with the theme of “heritage” for the July ATC swap at Scrapbook Outlet. Finally, although they are simple, I think they take a swipe at my heritage: 1: Born under a Southern Cross, 2: One-eyed Crusader and 3: Kiwiana.

Happy little things

Janine has a post today about the little things in life. And it must be the mood I am in today, cos I was thinking similar happy thoughts! So, what am I happy about today?

Tea for two

Ok – to start with today is Sunny. Yeah, OK so there hasn’t been a lot of rain in Welly for a bit until recently, but I sooo prefer the sun. Love it. The last couple of days have been wet, dreary and wetter. So to see the sun shining today – it’s just gotta be a good day. Can’t beat Wellington on a good day!

(unless of course you are playing rugby and then we cantabrians will wipe the paddock with you ANY day…. )

I finished my first ever set of ATCs for a Kiwiscraps swap. I’m gonna blow my one trumpet – I think I did good! And ya know what – that font is the one I have been searching for for a long while. Found it – such a nice font…… called Hannibal Lector….. so NOT a nice link! But I got it…. *oh happy day* (gospel style)

Discovered whilst giving that resist technique another go last night (in the light!) that either brand of dye inks or wet wipes matters. But that’s cool – should have it sorted in time for the card swap night on Monday. *oh happy day*

Meg’s box of goodies arrived – was waiting for me on the door step when I got home from picking Mr 3 up from pre-school. It had a bulge in it from something inside…. I like bulgy parcels – usually contain good things. And so it was true – very cool chipboard letters in a can.

I have no idea how that song goes on – but you get the idea……*oh happy day!*

And I got my first marked assignment back from the Open Poly. 85%…. it’s an A of some kind. *Oh yeah……..* – Frankie Stevens style!

So you get the picture – today is a GOOD day!

Hope yours is going just as good and happy

The Limbo Week

Standard

I always think of that week between Christmas and New Year as one of Limbo. DH is usually off, none of us is doing anything we usually do, we often take off at a whim and do something different. Nothing on TV is the usual programming that I watch. I usually forget which day of the week it is fairly quickly! It’s this period of quiet relaxation. I LOVE it! Pity the weather this year hasn’t been quite so conducive…. might have to find a tropical island of my own one day!

Christmas itself was really nice. The familial travails on “his” side of the family got forgotten – mostly – and we got to enjoy christmas with a touch of “my” side. Dad did a great job on the cubby for the boys. They got to help him reconstruct it in its new environs – and thoroughly loved the experience. Dad and his new partner were here for a few days only, but we enjoyed their company and got to show them around a bit. Boxing day was really neat – weather was crap here in Wellington, but we escaped to Masterton and REALLY got some christmas summer. OK, so we hit the crap again just as we hit Featherston on the way back, but we DID have 24 o while we were in Masterton. Complete with the sun blazing from the sky. Niiiice!

The boys just loved the experience of having Pop here. DS2 did what I have never seen him do before – stop Dad in his tracks and demand to be picked up! That is normally reserved for Mum and Dad ONLY!! DS1 got to travel with Pop on his own on one of the outings. And chattered all the way – I was surprised that Dad’s ear never fell off!!

Both boys seemed a little bereft when they drove away on Friday.

DH has spent the couple of days since we’ve been on our own to get a few of “those little jobs” sorted out around the house. Yay! (We won’t mention that some have been waiting more than 12 months to get around to….!)

I got my results back from my second paper towards my certificate. I managed a passing mark. Not a brilliant one, but one that accurately reflects the tough time I had through the year with my health. And the main thing is I PASSED! Now I need to sign up for the next two papers towards the certificate. Decisions, decisions!

I have done NO scrapping for over 2 weeks. On one hand it’s actually been nice to take a break. On the other, I feel like I’m hanging out – itching to get back into it! I have soooooooooo many ideas coming forward that seem to be reaching a bottle neck of actually getting around to doing any thing. So I need to get down to some work I think! There are still a few christmas cards that I need to finish and post out. yep, I always have a few that don’t reach the post office until the New year. I should really do them as New Year cards shouldn’t I??! I meant to post something here for the Daring Cardmaker’s but missed it and now I think it must be several weeks ago.

Looking at some stuff I have on my plate this year, I think I’m going to have to really try and stick to a New Years Resolution for once in my life. i mean to say, I KNOW how great I am at procrastinating – wouldn’t it be nice to show everyone I too can be organised???

So, I think that will be it: in 2007 I will be more organised with my life!! What does that mean?

  • Well, the housework will get done (at least more so that it is at present!!)
  • i’ll do a tad more home baking
  • I won’t be late with the study assignments
  • I will get DS1 to school by 8.30
  • I will be timely with any swaps that I sign up for
  • I’m going to try and get at least one layout a week done (so make that a goal of 52 for the year!)
  • I’m not going to overload myself with stuff – you know, over-commit myself.

Ok………….. so check back here same time next year. We’ll be seeing how much of that actually makes it through the year!

I’ve just signed up for a Circle Journal. i have no idea how to do one of these, but i thought it would be fun. And it’s one way to ensure I get something other than bills sent to my letterbox, eh?!

Well, to anyone out there that might actually read this, Hope you have a lovely New Years celebration – what resolutions are YOU making??

See you on the other side.
