Di’s Sketch Nov 14

Standard

Here is this week’s sketch for Di’s blog. There are some really great interpretations of the sketch this week.
I used this one the other night – a friend is moving away to Hastings. I got to know L via Mr 6 and her Mr 6 becoming good buddies. It has been so cute watching them becoming friends through kindy and school. If I go a little early, I’ve seen them walking (in that school way of 2×2… so cute!) holding hands. They really enjoy each other’s company. My Mr 6 is pretty upset, but we’ll be staying in touch and Hastings isn’t that far away now is it?!
The girls had a few drinks with L and I had chosen a lovely blown glass koru as a farewell gift. It’s hard being the one to make the decision on behalf of others on what to get on these occasions, but everyone loved it so it was a good call.

And if you are unlike me (i’d say most people are!) and are actually organised or getting that way for Christmas, you might want to take a look at this really neat bow. I make cards for Christmas but my wrapping is normally pretty ordinary. I do try to get nice paper and wrap it nice and neatly, but really – it’s just wrapping right??! But I think I’ll be doing this for a couple of special gifts…. a really nice touch to finish it off with. Of course, then I’ll need the nice tags to go with those too….. :lol:

Back on to the sketches again

Got this card done for this week’s Di Hickman sketch. It’s good to be doing these again – I am building up quite the stash for those occasions when I need something in a hurry!

I’ve actually been on Di’s card team for a while but my link wasn’t on her blog – just a wee oversight. But I finally asked Di to pop it on there this week – I’ve been dying to say “Oh yeah, I’m on Di’s card team” for aaaaages! :lol:   So yep – I’m there!

My other crafty work at the moment has been my Mum’s wedding album. She got re-married a couple of years ago and gave me her photo album while I was down in Christchurch a few months back. I thought it would be nice if I actually got the album made up for her sometime soon! As it was a reasonably informal affair, I’ve decided to keep it a very simple and classic look. Cream, browny-gold toned patterned paper with the accent colour and ribbon. I’ve got the pages more or less together, the photos matted and now all I really need to do is glue it all down! In the meantime, I’m hunting for a simple, elegant and not too expensive 8×8 album. I know they are out there yet because I want one yesterday NOW, do you think I can find one??!

Actually, this might be the excuse I need to get a “Bind-it-All”. Hmmmmmm….. :lol:

September 25 Sketch

Standard

My the weeks are just flying by – I know it seems like that all the time – but don’t you think they are just getting faster and faster??

So this is this week’s card for Di Hickman’s sketch. I really loved this one – I think there is a lot you can do with it. As much as I loved it I left it to the last minute (again!) and was wondering where to start. Luckily for me I had just gathered up the scraps from when I worked on my CJ the other day and Bam! It’s off. …Haha! Had you all there!! {for those that don’t get the TV reference, that was a direct link to probably the MOST annoying ad on tvthat’s probably why you aren’t watching TV}

OK – so I’m losing the plot today. Truly! So – yes, scraps. On today’s little example, I’ve used the Cosmo Cricket patterned paper (I think it was the Gretel range) and Bazzill. Really nothing fancy at all. And then at long last I used my lovely little hostess stamps I got from Stampin’ Up.

That outer circle it’s hand cut. That’s because I have a 1″ punch and as of today a fantastic 1.5″ punch. But guess what I need: you got it… a 1.25″ punch. Heaven help me!! And I’m sorry, as much as I love SU stuff I just think $30 + is a tad bigger than my budget will let me go. So let me know if you know of a cheaper 1.25 ” punch – otherwise it’s a *cutting-I-will-go* {think Count Homogenised…..}

Ok – there’s a van outside to collect me. They’ve even brought a lovely white coat to keep me warm – the arms buckle up at the back……. :shock: :lol:

Ar-har me hearties!!

Yes: I too find it amazing who thinks up these things, but I have it on good authority (the 11 year old neighbour) that today is *International Speak Like A Pirate Day*.  Because we all need to take the time to speak like this. .…..Riiiiight…

Moving right along swiftly…. I managed to get the latest sketch for Di done. I do not know how but I have missed the last couple of weeks. The weeks have slipped by too fast and before I knew it, I’d missed the deadlines. :oops:   So it’s kind of nice I got this one done. I have to admit, I’m not so sure of the pink glaze pen… it didn’t work so nice with the alpha template. Oh well. And that ribbon needed a bit more of a trim once I saw it online! Funny how you only notice these things when they are staring you back in the face!

I am really excited as I have been trying to sort out some stuff for this weekend. I’m going along to the all day crop being held at Kiwiscraps on Saturday with a bunch of friends. It’s meaning that I need to think ahead and work out what pages / projects I want to do. I mean 10 hours of scrapping: I can’t exactly come home with just a couple of quick pages now can I??! :lol: I think I might actually be able to make a dent in my christmas cards for this year. (Actually, you can read that as *starting* them!!)

Oh: and in other earth shattering news. Well not really, but it was a big deal for Mr 6! We had the tooth fairy come visit on Friday night. Yes, Mr 6′s first wobbly tooth finally came out – well, with a little help. {I was sick of being freaked out by its movement when wiggled!}  I would post a pic but really the ones I have just aren’t nice. I’m going to keep trying for that *flattering* missing first tooth photo. Might need to remember to wash the face first!

Not quite in time!

Thanks to our favourite Telco in the land (yeah, right!) I didn’t get the template from Di in time to submit for the deadline. But as I have a couple of cards to get done for the weekend, I thought I’d go ahead and use it none the less. So here is my take – and you can go have a look here to see what the other wonderful takes are on the theme.

Pieces I have used are: Bazzill cardstock, Grant archival paper, HS heart, Stampin’ Up stamp, Dymo label tape, a cuttlebug embossing folder, various inks, and my sewing machine.

Di Hickman Sketch August #2

Standard

Here is my card for Di’s weekly sketch. I was pleased to have this sketch as I had to make a card for a male and I found this one quite masculine. But if you take a look, you will see many takes on the theme and see plenty of girly ones too!

With this one, I’ve had a go at some serious distressing – scrunching, inking, edging etc etc. I think the result is a much less flat looking card so I was quite pleased.

The sentiment isn’t looking as crash hot as I intended: someone around the age of 6 has *borrowed* my usual stamp I think….. Must check his “stash” …. :wink: Must also seriously get handwriting lessons. Not feeling the love for my handwriting right now!! :lol:

I’m having a Stampin’ Up demonstration this weekend – so pleased to have one of my gfs deciding to become a demonstrator. Not so sure I’m looking forward to seeing the dolleros heading out of my wallet though! But I am looking forward to having some new stamps to play with. :)

July # 3 Card sketch

Standard

A little gift tag using Di Hickman’s sketch of the week.

OK – so yes, it’s hard to see a white background when you use the white lid on the scanner – but squint a little, OK?! Actually, now it’s published, WP has put a black border in making that part much easier. Cool! :lol:

I have to say that I just love, love LOVE the cuttlebug embossing folders. I picked this one up on my recent visit to Christchurch. They didn’t have the one I really wanted in store (the swirly one) but I thought this was a classic design that I should be able to get some us from. And I am!

The pink papers are scraps from a baby girl card I needed to make – so the gift tag was great. Measuring 5.5 sm square, it’s a cute size. I have to say I like the other cards the girls did for Di’s blog a lot better. There seems to be a little something missing from this one….. feel free to leave suggestions…. I might to a re-do!

Some might have said a *time lord* even. I said some…..
